Deck Building FAQ
Building a custom deck in Colorado raises a lot of practical questions — cost, timeline, materials, permits, HOA approval, foundations, warranties. We've pulled the questions homeowners ask most often into one place, along with straight answers based on a decade of building decks across Littleton, Golden, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Evergreen, and the rest of the Front Range. If your question isn't here, request a free quote — we'll get back to you with a real answer, not a sales pitch.

Custom deck pricing in Colorado typically ranges from $50–$150 per square foot installed, depending on materials, height, complexity, and site conditions. Composite deck projects average $25,000–$75,000 for mid-sized residential builds. Every Tekton quote is built from your specific design, site access, foundation needs, and material selection — we provide line-item transparent pricing after the initial consultation.

From signed contract to final inspection, most Tekton projects take 6–10 weeks. That includes 2–3 weeks for design, engineering, and permitting; 2–4 weeks for material lead times; and 1–3 weeks of active construction depending on size and complexity. Larger or covered structures with stone work can run longer.
-
We specialize in premium composite decking — Deckorators and Trex — paired with engineered framing, helical pier foundations, and cable or aluminum railing systems. We don't build pure wood decks because composite delivers better long-term durability for Colorado's freeze-thaw cycles, UV exposure, and snow loads.
-
Yes. Both Jefferson County and Douglas County require permits for any deck attached to a home or over 30 inches off the ground. We handle the full permit process for you — drawings, structural engineering, submittal, and inspection coordination.
-
Most HOAs in the Denver metro and foothills require design review before construction. Tekton provides the drawings and material specifications you'll need for your HOA submittal, but the homeowner handles the submission and approval process directly with the HOA. We've worked with enough HOA-governed projects across Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, and Jefferson County that we know what most boards expect to see.
-
Yes. Every Tekton project includes custom design tailored to your home, lot, and how you want to live outdoors. You'll review renderings before construction starts, and we engineer for Colorado conditions — snow loads, slopes, drainage, and code compliance.
-
We use helical pier foundations for many projects, especially on sloped or foothill lots. Helical piers are engineered for long-term stability, minimize site disruption during installation, and outperform traditional concrete footings on Colorado mountain soil. Standard concrete footings are used when site conditions favor them.
-
Tekton provides a 2-year workmanship warranty on every project. This is in addition to the manufacturer warranties on your selected decking and railing systems — Deckorators offers up to 50 years, Trex up to 25 years, and ALX Pro cable systems include their own structural warranty. If something isn't right under the workmanship warranty, we make it right. Full details are included in your customer agreement.

Tekton serves Littleton, Golden, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Sedalia, Parker, Evergreen, Conifer, and surrounding Jefferson County and Douglas County communities along the Colorado Front Range. We do not serve Denver proper.
-
Yes. Colorado winters allow for steady deck construction, especially on covered or sheltered projects. Helical pier foundations install year-round regardless of frost, and composite decking is unaffected by cold-weather installation. Winter is often our quietest scheduling window — many homeowners book then to be ready for spring entertaining.
-
Yes. Tekton Outdoor Living is fully licensed and insured for residential construction in Colorado. We provide certificates of insurance to HOAs and homeowners upon request.

Tekton is a Deckorators Certified Elite contractor — one of the highest certifications offered by the manufacturer. We also work extensively with Trex composite systems and ALX Pro cable railing.
